EMA FILMS is pleased to announce that production funding has
been secured for A BOTTLE IN THE GAZA SEA, a co-production with France's TS Productions (winners of seven César awards in 2009
for Séraphine). Based on a novel by Valérie Zenatti (Quand j'étais soldate), the author has co-written the script with director Thierry Binisti (L'Outremangeur).
Backed by Telefilm Canada and SODEC in Canada, the film has also confirmed financing in France from France 3 Cinéma, Ciné Cinéma and Canal+. The film will be distributed by Filmoption International in Canada, by Diaphana Distribution in France and represented by Roissy Films internationally. Filming began in Israel in April 2010 and will continue through to the beginning of June. The producers are happy to confirm the participation of Agathe Bonitzer as Tal (La Belle Personne, Un chat un chat), Mahmud Shalaby as Naïm (Jaffa), Hiam Abbass as Naïm's mother (The Visitor, Amreeka) and Jean-Philippe Écoffey as Tal's father (The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, Mères et Filles). The director of photography is Laurent Brunet (Séraphine, Tehilim).
>EMA FILMS is also delighted to announce that, following the confirmation of development financing earlier this year, producer Anne-Marie Gélinas will be in Cannes to attend the Producers Network and look for international sales agents for MY PRESENT AGE.
EMA FILMS, with Canadian partner Buffalo Gal Pictures, was able to secured development financing through Telefilm Canada and Corus early this year, for MY PRESENT AGE, an exciting new feature film adaptation. The film is also a co-production with Australia - New Holland Pictures - and the partners will be present in Cannes to secure an international sales agent for the film.

Both Telefilm Canada and Corus Entertainment have committed development financial support to the English-language feature. While the writing team readies the script, the production team will turn its attention to casting both in Australia and Canada. With production financing secured in the New Year, production is slated for fall 2010.

After a whirlwind week of meetings and industry parties at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), EMA FILMS has returned home with plenty of new contacts for the production of My Present Age. While the team is currently following leads to secure an international sales agent for this John Hazlett feature film, it is also exploring various exciting connections to develop new projects internationally. The team is now looking forward to a few busy months in financing for its current roster of co-productions as well as in preparing for the next event on the calendar, the American Film Market (AFM) in November.

EMA FILMS has signed a co-production agreement with French production company TS Productions (César-winning Séraphine) to shoot A Bottle in the Gaza Sea, based on the book by Valérie Zenatti. With financing expected to be secured by December, the co-producers, EMA's Anne-Marie Gélinas and TS's Gilles Sacuto and Miléna Poylo, plan to begin filming in Winter 2010, in Israel and Jordan. Meanwhile, the casting process has started in Paris for the two lead roles.

EMA FILMS will be at TIFF with their new partners Cathy Overett, from New Holland Pictures (Australia), and Phyllis Laing, from Buffalo Gal Pictures (Canada), to develop the film My Present Age. A co-production agreement was signed in June 2009. Now in the packaging phase, the partners are currently polishing the script with Karen Walton (Ginger Snaps) and director John Hazlett (These Girls). The objective at TIFF is to establish important contacts for casting and international sales. The majority of the filming will take place in Australia in summer 2010.
